I've been using an external CNET for a while now and can't say I've had
any problems. Only PhP 2K when I bought one earlier this year. Diamond
modems are also under PhP 4K, about 3.5K or so, and may do better, except
the one we got seems to have some idiosyncrasies...e.g. the original power
supply brick we have doesn't fit the power socket at the back of the
modem; we had to get another brick instead; fortunately (and curiously) it
works on DC power, unlike a lot of modems (including my CNET) whose bricks
are just transformers, not AC-DC adapters, and hence input AC to the
modem.
