I definitely agree with you. And while I'm using ReiserFS on all my Linux
boxes (uhh ... all ... three of them, what a puny statistic, hahaha!), I
still do clean shutdowns when I can. The stability/security of ReiserFS
because of its journalling is there as a "just in case".

Talking about UPSs, I'm hoping to get an APC Smart-UPS to replace my
Back-UPS Pro which does not have "smart signalling" capabilities. AFAIR
APC has its own PowerChute Plus for Linux, and then there's the GNU APC
UPSd. What would you guys/gals recommend, and why? I need a UPSd for the
following (in order of priority):
1. Clean shutdowns only when the battery is at critical level (ie:
estimated 10 minutes remaining).
2. Monitoring of UPS battery health and expected life via software (so I
can find out how much longer my server should stay alive from anywhere I
am by simply dialling up and logging on).
Hmm ... ?
TIA! :-)
