Hmm ... I'm using DevFS right now (I tried it out when I upgraded to
2.4.0) and it's doing okay. I have proper symlinks to the ide/... via the
traditional /dev/hda1, et al. The only issue I have with the current
version of DevFS is that it doesn't have a feature to remember the
permissions of devices. So I had to modify my rc scripts to chmod my audio
and dsp files. I don't know what's giving you a tough time. Migration to
DevFS was a breeze for me. (Is it the Debian package being better
packaged? Hyuk hyuk, kidding.)
