Uhhh, I don't think so. Inprise/Borland was the first compiler company to
support open source _and_ give away it's de facto C compiler: turbo c. It
still is free.
Most if not some of us may have gotten our first taste of assembly, C and
Pascal from Borland's products.
Currently, we at the freedos list use turbo c extensively with the utimate
aim of replacing ms-dos 6.22. We compile everything under it, even our own
kernel.
For assembly, we use MASM (!), which is also given away free by M$ to their
own demise.
Lastly - before I get broiled, all our development is done under DR-DOS /
DOSEMU.
Some of the freedos members do all this in a 386. We even have a couple of
sight challenged people using text-to-speech.
Let the government know that they do not need to purchase new hardware to
do all this and more.
