kernel 2.4.X requires too many changes to other stuff that you should
not just get the kernel rpms but a host of other rpms as well.
For example, if you want devfs you must get devfsd and edit rc.sysinit
to mount /devfs, and then edit out /dev/pts in /etc/fstab.  If you want
posix shared memory, you must edit /etc/fstab to mount /dev/shm.
If you want 32bit uids, you probably need to write a new version of
useradd (is useradd 32bit aware?).

It's just too much bother to put all these small things together.
I think you can get Suse 7.1(?) or AdmuLinux 2.0 (when it comes out)
or one of those new distros which ship with 2.4.X.
