If you're going to compile your own 2.4.x kernel, then you don't need the
kernel source, devel and headers rpm from redhat. Just d/l the kernel
source from your favorite mirror and compile. You need to update some
packages though (modutils, e2fsprogs, util-linux and pppd if you're using
it). Get the latest source rpms of the said packages (I used the Rawhide
source rpms), build and install on your machine.
