I've been using Courier IMAP for quite awhile, but I haven't done SQL
authentication, yet. I used Courier IMAP because of the memory
optimization and the speed, and because it uses Maildirs natively (unlike
UW-IMAP that needed a patch which I didn't quite like). You've probably
checked their site out already, but FWIW I'll post the URL anyway:

list can help you out. The author is particularly active, an intelligent
fellow. :)
