Wietse Venema and Dan Bernstein "go a long way". I remember that situation
where they were flaming each other's asses out about their philosophies, their
products, security, et al. They're both great hackers and developers, but as
most of us know this comes with a price: ego. Sometimes it feels like you have
to pick between the two and then use everything that one uses.

I, for one, agree with Migs Paraz in that it's a little difficult to have to
use all of DJB's stuff. Wietse Venema's tcp wrapper, for instance, seems to be
more widely used and less exotic than DJB's.

I used QMail before (more than tried because I had our mail system running on
it for quite awhile), and it was from QMail that I learned about the Maildir
format and subsequently maildrop and courier-imap from the courier suite (which
I still use until now). It was with QMail that I learned about "the world
outside Sendmail". QMail is not just good. It's great. But I moved on to
Postfix when I discovered it because I found that it was easier to set up and
maintain. I found myself reading the manpages of QMail more, and having to
remember exactly what packages I installed together with it. With Postfix's
single package that you can download already built-up and tested, deployment is
less of a task.

But then I know that it's "each to his/her own", and so I am in no way
saying "go Postfix", although I highly recommend it. Go with what you're
comfortable with and with what works best for and with you and your system(s).

djbdns is interesting, and I'll give it a shot one of these days, but I don't
think DJB's "guarantee" (of sorts) makes the software perfect.

Just my comments. :)
