Just don't select any of the options in the kernel
hacking section and everything would be alright,
assuming you got everything right in patching the
kernel with xfs. kernel-debugging is well-tested up to
2.4.5 only, and SGI still doesn't have full debugging
support higher than 2.4.5 (No *-kdb-* patches higher
than 2.4.5). I tried compiling it with gcc 2.95.2 and
no errors - fortunately. However, gcc<3.0.x would
result in a bigger kernel.

You should have no problems in XFS. Same reason as
Jijo said. Only one bug I remember is when you try to
mount a QNX4 partition then the system hangs - I think
it's with the antiquated binutils with potato who's
the culprit.

btw: I'm also using potato, 2.4.9-xfs custom kernel,
with every partition, save the /home partition (so i
can delete any unwanted user with speed, which is in
reiserfs) in XFS. However, I "~bunked" most of the
utilities that need to be compatible with 2.4.x
kernels, such as modutils. No downtime so far.
