Oh yeah it will. :)

That's why I mentioned good network design in the 
mix coz it's very critical for the ftp server
(unreachable via the internet.) to be protected. 

What developers will do is dial/connect to the 
vpn server's ip address, and they can now access 
the ftp server to do what they want.

If the network design is so good, developers can 
access the ftp server and the internet at the 
same time in their workstations seamlessly via 
vpn. They won't even notice that the ftp server 
is protected, it just works.

Hard part is the configs of the vpn, firewall and 
routers. But it's certainly doable.
