Actually 2.5.0 is equivalent to 2.4.15 (without the fs corruption
patches).  Maybe VMWARE has problems dealing with '2.5' kernel version
string?  I'm just guessing because for all the boxes i run vmware on, i've
had no problems just as long as the source for the running kernel is
present.

By the way, look at your /usr/src/linux symlink.  WHere does it point to?
2.4.14 or 2.5.0?  This has an issue because the /usr/include symlinks use
../src/linux
