#_ after many tries (and minimal documentation reading) i've finally got
#_ a config that makes everything (almost) work. the CD works, the
#_ CD-writer works and quite by accident, vmware started working :).
#_
#_ now i'm working on the sound card. and after that, the printer :)
#_
#_ one of these days i'm going to get everything working correctly.
#_ until i download another kernel and mess up the config all over again
#_ :).

That's why I always keep a copy of my .config file. After unpacking and
patching the new kernel, I copy my old .config in it and run make
oldconfig, anything new that comes up and I either say N, Y or M. This
at least guarantees me that my configured hardware will still work.
