As you will see in my domain name, we are in the same feather.  =)

Anyway, I'm not a systems or network administrator here in our office and I
cannot give a detailed technical and/or theoritical ideas about e-mail systems.
But one thing you need to consider that Yahoo! mail and Hotmail uses QMail - and
I assume you know why those companies didn't use Linux at all!  =)

BTW, QMail runs on most if not all Unix flavors including Linux!  =)
