Why not use sendmail to queue mail and fetchmail to get mail? I made sendmail queue with defining MASQUERADE_AS, smarthost, allmasquerade, and certain other options in a sendmail M4 configuration file. You get a dialup-on-demand Linux system with this setup. I recall back in 2000 that Robert Taylor did not release a new version of UUCP since 1996 and it had no Y2K assurances(the GNU website placed it in the "may work" category). I'll try to post the M4 configuration file when I can.
