With all the irrational childish reactions and lame technical rebuttals I'm getting from the people in the list, believe me, it would be no great loss if I never got another piece of mail from the list. I would've thought the list to be a place where enthusiastic Linux users could defend (in a reasonable way) why Linux is fit to replace Windows for a given task (after, all that's what evangelism is all about right?). Instead, I get a don't-disparage-Linux-because- we-say-so-and-you're-just-a-newbie-so-watch-your-mouth attitude. > > Yes, he called, a well respected linux pioneer, an idiot. The reason I called Eric Pareja an IDIOT was because he was flamebaiting me!!! Observe from http://lists.q-linux.com/pipermail/plug/2002-January/014904.html "But Cygwin is not from Microsoft! In fact, Cygwin is from Red Hat (they acquired Cygnus which does most of the development on GCC). Golly gee. Isn't that amazing? And it's Free Software. ;P (For the unfamiliar http://www.redhat.com/cygwin) It runs counter to Microsoft's anti-Free Software stance for you to use it, isn't it?" He seems to assume that anyone who likes Windows is automatically a Microsoft zombie and does not deserve to use free software. If this exclusivity and elitism is the attitude of certain open-source advocates, then I am not suprised why Microsoft would want to associate free software with being anti-American or 'communist'. And no, I don't see it fit to air dirty laundry out in a public list like some of the other members here seem so fond of doing but I sure as hell am not going to sit passively while I'm getting flamed at by people with the mentality of 12-year olds (dek for one) just for making my preferences known. Apparently, there is great intolerance on this list for people who LIKE other OSes (and who are not afraid to say so), I absolutely DO NOT BUY any of the lame defenses some of the people are making that basically go in the spirit of: "you are a christian came to a muslim territory and shouts christian rules! muslim sucks! it just like christian is windows and muslim is linux..." I guess Windows vs Linux IS a pissing contest for some addled brains, and I wasn't able to smell the piss marking the territory around PLUG. I leave it to you to judge whether my original post, http://lists.q-linux.com/pipermail/plug/2002-January/014539.html, the one that seemed to have started it all, was reasonable or not. I'm a Linux user, not a fanatic, and that is why I feel I can comment on Linux's disadvantages (YES! THEY DO EXIST!!!! AND IT HAS QUITE A FEW!!! REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY!!!!!!! ****BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!!****). Perhaps the list should be called Philippine Linux FANATICS Group instead? _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
