As long as you are using wu-imap, I think it is most prudent to use
the latest, which I think is imap-2001a.   Also I believe that you should
build it from the source, so that it can be tailored to your system.

If you build imap from source, then it would use the currently installed
PAM modules, and you won't have these version inconsistencies.
