well upgrading the glibc library is not that straightforward (or many of us are lead to believe). upgrading to a new OS seems easy compared to upgrading the glibc package. you have already said that it is the 'heart and soul' of a system and many are afraid to tinker with something that delicate. somebody provide an rpm and ill take a shot at it. and for some weird reason checkinstall and me are not getting along. ;-)
