sorry i couldnt really remember the original article but i found
another one (less descriptive) in this bugzilla report direct
from redhat:

the workaround were either to downgrade to an older glibc
or use mysql's --skip-name-resolve because apparently the bug has
something to do with the resolver lib. using skip-name-resolve
(if that even works), you must then set your user access lists with IP
addresses (cause hostnames wont resolve anymore).
