Vince,
I work under a setup and it works fine for me. Make sure that the user you
are checking out as is actually a member of your group1 on the server that
has the repository. You don't need a group1 on the client where you perform
the checkout.

On the server with my repository, I have a brianb user, default group
brianb, member of the cvs group. On my development box, I have a brianb user
and no cvs group. I'm able to check out and commit just fine. Now all I need
is to get WinCVS running properly...

If it still won't work, what's the error message? Are you sure CVSROOT and
CVS_RSH are set and exported correctly?

Brian
