i also found out that to get better control over what i install in my
system, i create slackware packages from sources i get and compile. then
upon successfully creating the package (now abiding by the 8.1 standards
or the pkgtool 2.0 specs) i then install it using good old installpkg
<package_name>.tgz 

this process does good for me in the sense that if i did something
wrong, or if the app i just compiled and installed doesnt seem to work
right according to my taste, i just do a removepkg <package_name>.tgz

i havent been disappointed so far in the slack distro releases that ive
been able to use. i trust patrick volkerding with my box, and would
continue to look at his rc scripts, as well as docs even though i do. i
just wish that slack would retain its simplicity given
