Ahh, the old usability conondrum again. How to make a hacker friendly Os into a 
user-friendly OS.
The problem is one of perception. If you ask people in the Mac camp windows is 
hopelessly user-unfriendly and the Windows version of Office ugly and unintuitive.

Obviously, people will prefer a particular OS not because one is more user-friendly 
than the others but primarily because that is what they encounter first or because a 
compelling feature that the others may lack.

So if desktop linux is to progress beyond a computer science curiosity, it would need 
the active intervention of a higher authority--such as a school administration--
