try recovering your boot sector by booting to your cdrom distro.  
and try reinstalling lilo or whatever boot loader you are using on 
the MBR (i suppose your using just one OS, in your box)

or u can do a complete boot of your root partition using your 
linux boot disk or d cdrom distro too. boot the partition where 
your root partition is then run boot loader installers.
