Support for USB thumbdisk has changed in linux-2.5/2.6.
In the older kernel, I used to do "modprobe usb-uhci".
Now things have changed, and I need to give the following
commands:

=== /usr/local/sbin/usbdisk ===
#!/bin/sh
modprobe uhci-hcd
modprobe usb-storage
mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /usbdisk
=== end script ===

You might need to change the "uhci-hcd" to "ohci-hcd" or
to "ehci-hcd" depending on the kind of USB hardware that
you have.

Because of steadily decreasing prices, convenience of use,
and portability, thumbdisks are becoming the "in" thing
for storage. I predict that soon, floppies, zip-disks,
and magneto-optical disks will disappear and be replaced
by thumbdisks.
