just a guess, perhaps your disk and cdrom are running on different udma modes and perhaps it is bad (yur disk is ultra133 but your cdrom is what).. anyway i dont know for sure if different udma modes can be mixed on the same ide chain --perhaps that is ok----but looks to me you have a spare ide port anyway (hdc). Why not try moving the cdrom to the other chain just to see if it boots (or maybe disconnect the cdrom for awhile to see if it boots)... Myself, I always try to put an ide disk on its own channel whenever i can (i.e., no slave whenever possible).
