That's exactly what Microsoft Corporation has in mind! It means their
strategy is working as designed. QED.
List-members, please take note of vendor lock-in at work: Your CEOs
typically won't figure this out (about MS Exchange Server) until long
after it's already too late. Don't expect to easily convince them to
change course once they've decided they like its "integration", etc.
If your firm has already been subjected to the MS Exchange Server / MS
Outlook plague, probably the best thing you can do is document the
ongoing expenses (both monetary and intangible) such as periodic
messagebase corruption, viruses/worms, forced adoption of MS-captive
network authentication, desktop OS lock-in, mandatory deployment of
multiple additional hosts as domain servers, etc. Eventually, the firm
_will_ get tired of being jerked around, and will be open to
alternatives like:
o SuSE Linux Openexchange Server
o Bynari Insight Server
o Samsung Contact
o CommuniGate Pro Messaging Server
You can then suggest those options. With luck, the person who
recommended MS Exchange Server will no longer be at your firm, and so
will not have an employment-related interest in preventing his
recommendation from being reversed.
