#Why Mono when Java is so much more mature and has no #FUD surrounding it? Remember that MS has patents on
For those unfamiliar with .NET, it's simply a set of APIs and tools that any CLI-compliant language can use. You can view .NET as equivalent to the Core Java API, J2EE, and extension APIs in the Java space.
for those familiar with .NET, and also to those unfamiliar with it, there is something called DotGNU which offers a lot of what .NET offers.
you can code in C# (there are IDE's, libraries, etc.) and use the DotGNU framework to interact with python, XML-RPC, perl, C/C++, and more to come (one i'm helping develop, which is called WebScheme) based webservices with XML (or other non-XML) standard communications.
there is also support and an implementation of Mono.
currently, it's being worked on by volunteers. there's also a release (0.1) but features are pouring by the days.
