hmmm... just my 2cents worth, i never touch dselect directly. based on experience, it's really scary and unintuitive.
however, what i do is apt-get install/remove the packages that i need, and it automagically doest things for me. quite surprising at first, especially if you're used to slackware nad pkgtool, but after a while you'll get the hang of it.
