I have not heard about this chipset, but we encountered a problem once
were the chipset was new and our verion of XFree86 did not suport it.....

We were stuck with only a VGA mode ... we tried all the drivers including
VESA nothing worked.... then we tried to specifiy a lower color depth for
VESA (did'nt use 32/24 bit) , say in the range of 16bits to 8 bits and
it worked (note: garbage was display at the start when changing to this mode....
before anything was displayed) ;-)

Perhaps you should try to adjust the color depth of SVGA / VESA driver (I make
no guarantees, and will not be liable for any damage/injury resulting directly or
indirectly from the use of this information) :-\

Good Luck! Have Fun! :-)

I have a question though: has anyone heard of a very old low-end chipset
named MXC? Apparently from a company named Macronix? I've gotten XFree86
4.2.0 to run only in VGA mode under the chipset, even if it claims to be
an SVGA chip. And no, I can't upgrade this-- and yes, I am perfectly
happy to have the box with a CLUE (hehehehe :). Hopefully someone has
heard of the chip and can give me pointers on getting more bang from it.
(Right... wishful thinking).
