My experience so far includes Reiser, ext2, and ext3. I've found that Reiser is much faster than ext3 (and of course, ext2), and it's rock solid. If you use the 2.4 kernel under Debian, it's pretty simple to choose Reiser as your filesystem. I'm on the JFS development list, and I have used it. Again, fast and solid, and it's backed by IBM. xfs is backed by SGI, and I haven't used it. I have no reason to believe that it's not great, also. In the end, though, I think it'll be a two horse race between Reiser and ext3. There's no reason that jfs or xfs will go away, but I know of no compelling reason to use either one instead of the more popular choices.
