be thankful redhat is doing that, otherwise they wouldn't have the $$$ to
pay for further linux development. realise that a lot of kernel developers
are on redhat's payroll.

people are always whining about this and that and i don't want to pay and
Mr Filthy took away my caaaaannnnddddyyyy. it all boils down to whether
you can pay for support or not.

besides, up2date is free -- it's just, if you don't pay, you get to
connect to slower mirrors. i don't see why that is not fair, bandwidth
costs money.

also you can use Ximian's redcarpet (which i prefer, since it's better
looking than up2date).

quantify "suck."

that aside, i think your *opinions* are just that -- opinions. there's no
need for distro-specific bigotry here.

if you have lots of time to spend updating your system, by all means use
whatever you want. rememeber that redhat is geared towards enterprises.
for them, $5/month is tiny compared to the total TCO of $10k/year for a
single machine.

up2date/redcarpet allows you to deploy updates seamlessly to many, many
desktops, easily. that's the whole purpose of it. so if in your own
workplace, you don't have that need, then by all means don't use it.

but tossing out casual "RPM sucks" comments is neither useful nor helpful.
