I'm trying to avoid buying "new hardware" as much as possible :) Have you
come accross a software that can make-do with an ordinary 56K modem?

I saw some programs in freshmeat and in sourceforge that has answering
machine, autodialing, and voice announcement features. I'm still looking
for a program wherein the caller is allowed to dial the local number
without the need of an operator.

The idea is to provide the caller with a voice menu where he can choose if
he wants to dial the local number right away or wait for an operator to
answer. If the former is chosen, the caller can then dial the local number
immediately. The program will capture the generated tone and use it to
mimic steps 3) and 4) as mentioned below.
