But the Matrix world was in 1999. Now, Morpheus says that since "the ONE" arrived, they "have freed more minds in the past six months than in the past six years. So, Matrix Reloaded should be anywhere from January 2000 to June 2000. And the SSH-exploit Trinity used was discovered on February 8, 2001. (from the screenshots in Matrix Reloaded). Hmm, I think the more appropriate question is how the humans were able to come up with some much technology, raw materials, power, given their situation.
