Try booting to the miniroot. This is a "hidden" filesystem on IRIX boxes which contains a very small FS and OS (e.g. think TomsBRT but on a hidden small partition on the hard drive). I forgot the particular invocation from the CMOS loader (it's long and arcane) -- see the SGI FAQ at viz.tamu.edu. Once you get into the miniroot, you can mount the "real" filesystem (EFS or XFS) and edit /etc/passwd. Prepare for some pain, because vi doesn't know how to handle an SGI console (not in termcap). Use ed or cat. :) --- Orlando Andico <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mosaic Communications, Inc. -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
