To recover the root password, you definitely
need the IRIX Installation tools & overlays aka
as the boot cd. I can't think of any other way.

I have the complete set of IRIX 6.5.7 plus the
compilers (c,c++, fortran, etc.)... but it's not
mine. Send a private e-mail to me if you are
still interested and we will see what we can do.

Partly true. O2 linux support as paolo
