If you REALLY read my long reply to your message and checked the links
in the bottom and did some reading you would have seen that this is
EXACTLY what at least the first approach does. It goes beyond just
PostgreSQL: it replicates ALL your data so its applicable for file
and mail servers as well, to name a few.

I found more alternative replication approaches for PostgreSQL in
GBorg[1]. Check them out, too.

(PS: If you, or anybody, needs commercial help with setting up
high-availability server clusters let me know by private email and we'll
discuss your requirements off-list.)
