Replication is still in the todo[1] list of PGDG (PostgreSQL Development Group). There already exists solutions but none of them got included in the core distribution of PostgreSQL. The link[2] to these solutions has been pointed out by Jijo in his recent post. Missing in that link are Slony-I[3] by Jan Wieck (member of PGDG), Mammoth PostgreSQL Replicator[4], and dbExperts HA Replication[5]. The latter two are commercial, meaning you have to pay for it. > i have 2 servers, both running postgresql. and i want it to have fail-over > i case one server goes down the other can take-over the job. and when the > failed server goes up again, it will syncronize its data, meaning updating > the failed server data. is it possible in my plan? Basically, replication solutions are divided into two types of approaches: single-master and multi-master. The latter is what you are looking for. Postgres-R does multi-master but I don't think it has a stable release and catches up with the latest version of PostgreSQL. I had the understanding that Postgres-R will become the official replication solution but it never happened because of the licensing issues with group communication systems like Spread. Bruce Momjian (member of PGDG) has a presentation[6] about replication solutions. You might want to read it.
