Everybody knows what? That OSS is superior to closed source?

I don't believe so. It was someone much smarter than me (Brian Behlendorf 
I think) who said that FOSS is good for infrastructure, but once you get 
into vertical applications, FOSS falls down.

I don't know how true that assertion is, but the gist of the rest of your 
message seems to be, people gravitate to that which "scratches their 
itch." Whether that is FOSS or proprietary. Which is as it should be.

I just simply think that FOSS empowers the /smart/ end-user. The average 
end-user simply couldn't care less about freedom; but they certainly care 
about free-as-in-beer.
