I just recently wrote such a program that interfaces to Gnokii recently, since we needed to make a demonstration quickly but had a hard time finding a proper GSM modem or the cables to connect a 7110 to a computer that would work with Kannel, as those of you who went to my talk during philosc would know... ;) It's definitely doable, but the main problem is it requires you to poll the phone at intervals to see whether there's anything in the phone's memory for you to read. Gnokii doesn't have a facility to automatically notify you when a new message has arrived, it's not part of the Gnokii API, and I don't think it's even possible given the limitations of the serial interface some Nokia phones have. Polling the phone runs the battery down fairly quickly, and after this demo period is over we will probably need to replace the battery for that poor phone... -- dido Sans les mathematiques on ne penetre point au fond de la philosophie.
