Paolo,

In that case, can you pls extract that part of the by-laws /
constitution which juridically elaborates on institutional and
individual membership?

PLUG membership was initially designed to be free...that anyone who
joins this mailing list is automatically a member. Dunno if the
archives of the list captured that thought. Maybe some of the oldies
could say something about this.

The old membership "policy"/style was made that way to welcome newbies
and experts alike as well as to promote linux. With a change in
membership policy, it is proper to inform everyone in this mailing list
on the details such as rationale for the change, what the changes are,
date of effectivity, et al.

As for Rommel's suggestion, pls also post the mechanisms for amendments.
Those concerned might be interested to know what the current board feels
about this proposal.

I propose that the minutes of meetings be posted here since not all
members of this list are able to attend face-to-face meetings. This
will also help promote linux and plug.

Sammy

Since there was no clear-cut definition of what qualifies someone to
become a PLUG member, we took the initiative of defining it in the
constitution, along with the qualifications.

I forwarded a proposal for the aforementioned institutions a few weeks
back and was approved on the board meeting of 15 December 2004.

The qualifications for juridical/institutional membership are enshrined
in the new PLUG constitution we drafted. Since the PLUG mailing list
seems to have a limit in the size of the attachment, and that the PLUG
web site is yet to undergo renovation, it was then decided that anyone
who'd want to get a copy of the constitution would have to direct an
email request to me. We'd be uploading the constitution as soon as the
site gets revamped.

We don't have a provision for lifetime membership in the constitution.
I do think that this is one issue that would require constitutional
amendments - fortunately the mechanisms for such are also specified in
the constitution.
