For some reason, we identified the same idea on different threads with the same subject. It would be a pretty useful plugin. As for the feasibility, if someone would be working full-time on it and reaping the rewards upon completion, it should be very interesting still.


Only problems I could think of would be caching, file-seek operations, and locking mechanisms. Sockets bound to files, fifo's, mmaped files originating from a remote FTP filesystem are just some of the problems that would be dealt with -- just off the top of my head.

It should however prove useful especially for open systems and hybrid networks (ones that have both Windows and Linux nodes).
