This is the problem with all of the DMR radios, Take note Motorola is king in this one. They have gone after people who try to create software to program their radios under Linux. The Chinese for some reason refuse to even consider anything but MS also. The chirp folks have demonstrated that Python is a very viable solution for radio programming and it works across all of them (well not android because it is missing some bits and pieces but Linux, Mac, Windows all can handle Python no issue. But try to get Chinese to move off of M$ products and it is like pulling Hen's teeth. The Bridgecom guys would love to have it done in something that runs under all of them, but they cannot get the manufacturer to move. Same issue with Connect Systems, they would love to have a cross platform CPS for their radios, but the manufacturer will only hear Windows...
Interesting note is that the D868UV software runs just fine (in fact faster) under Wine that windows. The 868 and the 878 are basically the same radio, But the 878 has Bluetooth enabled and the GPS has a few more features. So I have to fall back on my Win10 VM for two radios now. I am hoping that I can find something out from the Wine folks as 4.9 seems to do everything but detect the serial ports.
