First, the two programs (Cantata and Ario) both start up a
configuration page asking for the network information. And the popup
windows look almost identical, i.e., I think one of them copied the
code from the other.

Second, after installing Ario and encountering the same problem with it,
I installed Rhythmbox, which launched with no requirements at all and
immediately started playing an internet radio station that I added to
it. None of my other applications has any problem reaching the
internet either, leading me to guess that there is a serious bug in the
Cantata/Ario startup code.

Regarding the mpd.config file, I searched the entire filesystem and
found no files *mpd* at all. Yet Banshee and Rhythmbox work just fine.
It might help if I had a clue what mpd does, but I can say that Banshee
and Rhythmbox not only stream internet radio stations, they also have
no problem playing any of my ~1000 MP3 files that I ripped and encoded
a long time ago from my personal CD collection.

To summarize: I tried both Cantata and Ario, leaving the Host blank
with the localhost default, with an without my password. I also
replaced localhost with the router's IP address and with the IP address
of the computer, both with and without my password. The results were
always nada, nada de nada. At this point I must conclude that these two
programs should be uninstalled and crossed off my list.

Thanks for the advice!
