I have a pair of speakers plugged into a USB port on the rear of the desktop. When I invoke alsamixer I see only a single control bar rather than the full choice of input and output devices. I plugged a headset in the front port but had no sound.
Is there a setup/configuration for alsamixer that I've not found? Pressing F5 for all devices added one new bar for 'capture' and marked 'L' and 'R' but it disappeared when I exited the application. Alsamixer displays the card and chip as PulseAudio and the item as Master.
