Technically, an MD5 hash is not encrypted.  It's Hashed.

A hash is only a one way mechanism.  Encryption is two way.

Technically, he didn't claim the MD5 was an encryption of his message. He said

included the public key of his encrypted MD5 hash. :)


You're right, I made an assumption.

He could have given us the hash, then the key that he had encrypted the hash with, but not the ciphertext of the encrypted hash.

That could be what he meant, but I assumed that he was sane.  :)
