I'm also trying to get AlienBBC to work on Windows XP SP2. I've been
trying to follow the suggestions in this thread and I've lost count of
the number of times I've thought - ah, that must be it - only to try it
out, and waited in vain ... but just silence.

Everything else is working ok including playing FLACs and Shoutcast
radio.

Summary: slimserver 6.0.2, softsqueeze (on the same box), mplayerpre7.
I've copied mplayer (and lame, and the codecs directory with the two
named codes from the windows-essentials pack) into the
MSWin32-x86-multi-thread directory. I've edited the
server/slimserver-convert.conf file for the pre7 variation, and I've
added the "volume=0" bit that has been recommended.

The plugin seems to be working in that I can see the list of stations
in slimserver, select one and get softsqueeze saying it is playing the
named station. Just no sound!

I've seen the note about running the "WMA" test but (sorry!) can't work
out what this means - where does that URL go?

I am severely pushing the limits of my knowledge here but if anyone can
give me a few pointers I'd be very grateful.

Thanks
