Following your advice to re-install SlimServer and the AlienBBC plugin resolved the problem. I didn't uninstall. I simply stopped the slimserver re-ran the install then while the slimserver was still stopped, copied the AlienBBC plugin back into the directory structure. A restart of the slimserver and it all works fine.
