Both install methods for USBZIP and USBHDD appear in the menu of SlimCD
but I cannot achieve it because the script wants to download files from
ibiblio server and it seems that it is difficult to connect to it (this
is an information found on the DSL forum). In the latest version of DSL,
the script is updated and all necessary files are available on LiveCD.

Thanks for the feedback! In fact I'm now using the latest 2.4 build of DSL, but the menu was adapted from... 1.5 I guess :-) Very probably all the packages are there, but the menu entry is outdated.

Could you also imagine to build and sell an USB-pendrive with a fully
fonctionnal slimserver, plugins, database and playlists saved on the
pendrive... ? It seems easy for you who are expert in DSL and
slimserver !

I'm no expert, believe me. I'm just following the information found in the DSL forums, built a build script based on this and run it as often as I need to fix all the problems I introcude :-).

But I guess I would find out how to do it. When I started work on the SlimCD I did it once, just to learn that _none_ of the 4 computers in the household were able to boot from USB stick... Maybe if I sold enough of them I would afford some more recent hardware ;-). The main reason I won't do this is time. I'm trying to keep my different projects up to date with the latest slimserver development, but I can't commit to paying customers, I'm sorry.

So you've been using SlimCD from USB?

BTW: the reason I started this project was to build a low power, low noise, fan-less Slimserver which is running the system from some kind of RAM. I planned to do the USB trick, but had to abandon it for the reasons aforementioned. I ended up with a CF card on a CF->IDE adapter, with a 2.5" disk for the music. This system is almost noiseless (you can hear the disk spin up - that's it). But there's nor RAID nor terabytes of storage.
