Same here. The old spotify plugin did show the playlists etc and played tracks without sound. I noticed the old Spotify app played FLAC converted files like the Spotty plugin. After removing the Spotty plugin Spotify plays back Ogg Vorbis with sound.
My guess: Spotify itself killed something.
