Using ufw (or the graphical equivalent gufw) one can log what the firewall is doing, and look specifically for incoming requests that are blocked. I've done that and it seems OK, but sometimes I get fooled by broadcast requests not addressed specifically to the music server. I already have some ports open for this player using UPnP (both the bridge, and using the Marantz as the controller to other UPnP servers), and added 8200 and 9000 tcp plus 5353 UDP.
I'll try Trigger, but testing is dangerous - max volume could break my speakers, and the volume does not go down well with other occupants :) I don't know enough to know where to even start to work out why the player doesn't show when started up from cold. If it's previously been dropped after, say 20 scans, will the bridge ever try it again? I assume not. So stopping and starting the bridge might then be the only way to get it back.
