So if you have the same problem on UPnP and Airplay, that's interesting because the detection systems are totally different, so it excludes an issue with libupnp (respectively mdns). Maybe there is one thing I could try which is to never remove a player UNLESS I receive an explict BYE-BYE. Currently, when setting the missing count to 0, players are never removed, even if a BYE-BYE is received. Assuming that a player sends BYE-BYE when powered-off, that could help.
